I’ve started this blog to write about my adventures on the tall ship Pelican of London.
I’ll be sailing for three weeks, beginning in Folkestone on 16th May, and then travelling clockwise round the UK, via the Channel Islands, Scilly Islands, as well as some UK ports, and then finishing (nominally) in Bristol around the 6th June.
The ship that I’ll be sailing on is the Pelican of London, which was originally built in 1948 as an arctic trawler. It was refitted as a sail training vessel from 1995 to 2007, and is now owned by a charity.
No sailing experience is required, which is good, because I have very little. At secondary school I went sailing on Wednesday afternoons, because it seemed greatly preferable to the alternative games afternoon options of rugby and athletics. Then at university I spent two days on an army yacht off the west coast of France, and that was the last time I went on a sailing boat.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for further updates!
